What are Generic Medicines
TThe generic medicines are the medicines that do not have a brand name. In terms of composition, side effects, dosage and route of administration, they are similar to their branded counter parts but they are less expensive in comparison to the branded medicines.
The manufacturers of branded medicines invest a lot on marketing and advertising. Therefore the prices are higher.
On the other hand, the generic brands do not invest in advertising and marketing and therefore they are more reasonably priced. In terms of quality, effectiveness and safety, the generic medicines are the same as their branded counter parts. The only difference is that they are comparatively much more affordable.
Composition and inactive ingredients
As per the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO), the inactive ingredients present in the branded drugs might not be the same as that of the generic drugs.
The inactive components like dyes, binding materials, preservatives and flavouring agents for branded and generic drugs might vary.
Legal Requirements and Appearance
As per the Trademark laws, the generic medicines cannot have the exact same appearance as that of the brand name counter parts even if their functionality and the active ingredient is same.
This means that the look of the generic drugs might be different from their branded counter parts.
Assurance of Quality
It is necessary for the generic medicines to meet the stringent quality standards similar to that of their brand name counter parts. As per the guidelines set by WHO,
the generic medicines should show bioequivalence to their branded counter parts so as to ensure that they are equally effective and safe. Both the branded and the generic medicines that we sell strictly adhere to the WHO standards.
